Taming lets you turn wild animals into pets that fight alongside you. Here's exactly how it works and every animal you can tame.

How to tame an animal

  1. Get a Taming Flute. There are three tiers: the Old Taming Flute, Good Taming Flute, and Strong Taming Flute. Higher tiers let you tame stronger animals.
  2. Use the flute on an animal. This starts a 30-second minigame where you balance a red bar inside a light-green zone (like the fishing minigame). Tap to lift the bar, release to drop it.
  3. Feed it. Once the minigame is won, the animal becomes neutral and asks for specific food. Feed it to complete a stage.
  4. Repeat. Animals have multiple stages, shown as faces above their head. When every face turns into a pink heart, the animal is tamed.

Stronger animals have a smaller green zone and need more precise timing.

Pet limits

You can have 2 tamed animals at once. Holding a Strong Flute raises the cap to 3. The Zookeeper class can also hold 3 regardless of flute.

What you can't tame

You cannot tame the Deer — not even with a Strong Flute. Guard animals and the wolves that spawn on you at night can't be tamed either.

The Kiwi is extremely rare and appears in any biome — most commonly near the level-6 campfire.

Pet commands

Once tamed, you have four actions:

  • Follow — the pet follows you and attacks anything that attacks you.
  • Sit — the pet stays put and becomes passive.
  • Release — despawns the pet so you can tame more.
  • Rename — give your pet a name.

Tips

  • Tame two Wolves early — they level up your flute fast and help a lot on cultist raids.
  • Yes, you can tame with cooked food.
  • If you use the flute on a second animal mid-tame, the first animal's progress resets.
